What is Playfair?

Playfair is a lightweight, mobile-friendly web app designed for any team sport coach or manager. It runs entirely in your browser — no sign-up, no downloads, no fuss.

At its heart it solves one problem every coach faces: making sure every player gets a fair share of time on the pitch. Whether you're managing a kids' team or adults, football, rugby, hockey or any other team sport — Playfair tracks each player's minutes in real time, flags who's falling behind, and helps you plan rotations before kick-off.

Everything is saved locally on your device between sessions, so your squad names and match planner are always ready when you need them.

   Set up your squad

   Choose your squad size, team size (players on pitch), and formation using the GK / Defenders / Midfielders / Forwards dropdowns. The total must match your team size before you can start.

   Add player names

   Optionally enter player names — they'll appear on the pitch cards and in the stats table. Names are remembered between sessions.

   Set periods & match details

   Choose how many periods and how long each one is. Add team names and the match date if you want them in exports and screenshots.

   Use the Match Planner

   Before kick-off, use the planner table to assign each player a position for each period. This helps you think through rotations in advance.

   Track time during the match

   Tap Start to begin. Player cards show a green / amber / red border indicating how fairly time is being distributed. Tap two players to swap them between pitch and bench.

   Log goals

   Tap "For us" or "Concede" to record goals. You can assign a scorer and undo the last goal if needed. Goals are logged to the correct period even in overtime.

   Export or screenshot

   At full time, use Export to copy or email a text summary, or Screenshot to save an image of the full match — great for sharing with parents or keeping records.
